Making Chuseok Songpyeon with Children and Foreigners

On September 15, the Korean Culture Class hosted an event for the children of women with disabilities in cooperation with Seoul Community Rehabilitation Center. Entering its third year, the event provides youngsters with opportunities to get to know foreign volunteers and experience new cultures.
For this year’s program held in the days leading up to Chuseok, the traditional full-moon festival, the class made songpyeon, half-moon–shaped rice cakes. The children learned about the native countries of their foreign friends who in turn experienced the traditional culture of Korea. It was a meaningful and fun time for everyone involved to share stories of traditional holidays, food, and cultures from around the world.
