Korea Ranked 6th in Global Cultural Influence
Korea was ranked the world’s sixth most culturally-influential nation among 169 surveyed countries, according to the 2021 Good Country Index, ahead of the UK (23rd) and the United States (57th). The Good Country Index, which measures each country’s competitiveness by category each year, quantifies how effectively countries sell positive ideas of themselves.
The Observer, the Sunday edition of the Guardian, carried a cover story headlined “K-everything: the rise and rise of Korean culture” quoting the index. The article points out that Korea achieved its high ranking due to the global popularity of Hallyu (Korean Wave), such as K-pop, film, TV series, and other cultural content.
