Nakorn-Sawan (2018) is a film that provides a glimpse into the traditional Buddhist funeral culture of the Thai people. Following therecent passing of her mother, the protagonist, Aoey, ventures out to the PakNam Po River, believed to connect the physical realm with heaven, in order toproperly bid her mother's spirit farewell.
As she sailsupriver alongside her father, family members, and her childhood friend-turned monk, they all reflect back on her mother between the two countries connecting Europe with moviegoers to contemplate their own life journey. Based on realevents, the film is a fusion of Aoey’s story with ary footage of the bereaved family, including the director, Puangsoi Aksornsawang, following her mother’s passing in 2017 as the film was making its world premiere atthe 2018 Busan International Film Festival.
