“The Rite of Passage,” as part of the Easy Access Singapore program, was held at the ASEAN Culture House’s ACH Hall on October 19 and 20, featuring a Peranakan dance performance. The event was co-sponsored by the ASEAN Culture House and the Embassy of The Republic of Singapore in Seoul, and was headlined by Dance Ensemble Singapore (DES). Founded in 1993, DES introduced the dynamic dance culture of Singapore through an interpretation of Peranakan marriage customs, containing blended elements from both Chinese and Malaysian tradition. A number of key figures, including the Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore, Yip Wei Kiat; the Korea Foundation Executive Vice President, Seong-in Kim; as well as Busan city officials and the general public, came together for the event to experience the beauty of traditional Singaporean dance.
