Donation Program

The Korea Foundation is

on the forefront in introducing Korea to the international community and making friendship with people around the world through the promotion of Korean studies abroad, cultural exchange, public diplomacy, publication and media programs. As a messenger to show Korea to the world, the Foundation is committed to playing the social role of Korea's representative public diplomacy organization.

Your contribution makes Korea greater.

Program Overview

The Korea Foundation enhances international understanding of Korea by providing support to and thereby making Korea-related programs more active at overseas universities, institutes, museums and libraries. Requests for support from around the world, however, are beyond the Foundation's current financial capacity. Individuals or companies are, therefore, most welcome to join the Foundation in its efforts by making a donation.

General Donation

Donations made without any specific designation for their usage are allocated to theFoundation's various international exchange programs.

Designated Donation

When donors specify certain projects, organizations or countries to support, the Foundation implements the projects and takes follow-up measures on behalf of donors. In this case, an agreement is signed among donors, beneficiaries, and the Foundation to specify the three parties' obligations and rights. Acknowledgement of the donation is made in accordance with donors' wishes.

Designated Donation Cases

  • Establishment of professorship entitled "Yoon Se Young Professor of Korean History" at Harvard University, U.S. (SBS Culture Foundation)
  • Development and publication of Korean language textbooks for Vietnamese, Kazakh, Indonesian and Mongolian speakers (Kookmin Bank)
  • Renovation of Korean gallery at Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum's acquisition of contemporary Korean artworks (Amorepacific Corporation)
  • Establishment of endowment for Korean studies programs at University of Michigan, U.S. (LeeUn-hyung)
  • Establishment of Korea Chair at Brookings Institution, U.S. (SK Corporation)
  • Scholarship for Korean Studies Department students, Dalat University, Vietnam (Family of the Late Professor Oh Jong-ho)

Benefits of Donation

As Korea's representative public diplomacy organization, the Korea Foundation enjoys public confidence at home and abroad. Donors can expect a high level of credibility, transparency and effect of donations from start to follow-up when they donate through the Foundation, rather than donating directly to beneficiaries, because of the Foundation's long history of work experience, networks and specialization. In addition, donors are entitled to receive tax benefits for their donations through the Foundation in pursuant with tax regulations as it has been designated as a legal contribution organization. Those who want to make a donation but are not well informed or find it hard to decide can participate in international exchange activities through the Foundation's General Donation Program.
