Korean Kkwabaegi Ranked Fourth Best Deep-fried Dessert
The Korean traditional dessert kkwabaegi (twisted Korean donuts) claimed fourth place on the “Top 96 Deep-fried Desserts in the World” list curated by TasteAtlas, an online guide for traditional food across the globe. The snack earned 4.4 out of 5 stars, brushing aside Spanish churros and the US-style donut. Kkwabaegi was the only East Asian deep-fried dessert ranked within the top 50 and is already well-known among tourists visiting Korea, thanks to popular YouTubers introducing it as a must-eat “K-dessert.”
Bomboloni, a sugar-coated donut from Tuscany, Italy, claimed first place on the list, followed by bola de Berlim, a Portoguese custard cream donut; and the flour- and potato-based Italian graffe Napoletane.
