Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Hosts
‘Nam June Paik: The Future Is Now’ Exhibition Online
On March 27, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam opened the exhibition Nam June Paik: The Future Is Now online. The exhibition is a part of the KF’s program for promoting Korean exhibitions at overseas museums. Originally, the museum planned the exhibition to be offline and open on March 13 (continuing through August), but plans were put on hold on the eve of the opening date due to spread of COVID-19. Under these circumstances, the Stedelijk decided to move the exhibition online to enable viewers to enjoy the creative world of the late artist while abiding by the Dutch government’s social distancing measures.
The online tour of the exhibition provides an opportunity to appreciate Paik’s works under the guidance of Leontine Coelewij, the curator in charge. Coelewij introduces diverse information about Paik’s artistic activities and legacy on contemporary media art while offering interpretations of the works on display. Online appreciation of artwork may be an unusual move, but it presents a rare chance to enjoy a curatorial tour for art lovers who are currently unable to visit the Stedelijk in person. The online tour was given live on March 27 and is now available on YouTube:
