Korea-China Friendship Week

To celebrate the Korea-China Friendship Week, the Korea Foundation dispatches a group of performing artists to Wuhan, Hubei Province, to stage diverse performances, including traditional Korean dance, fusion percussion music, and B-boy show. (Participating groups: National Gugak Center, percussion group “Gongmyoung,” and B-boy team “Gamblerz Crew”)

International Conference in Paris on the Geopolitical Situation of the Korean Peninsula

KF Summer Concert for Foreign Residents 2011: ‘Different But the Same’

The Korea Foundation regularly organizes the KF Concert for Foreign Residents in Korea to provide foreign residents with an opportunity to enjoy diverse genres of Korean music. This year’s concert will feature the renowned gayageum (12-string zither) player Hwang Byung-ki performing with Western-style classic musicians.

The 25th AKSE Conference

Modern Art Oxford Features Korean Artist Yang Hae-gue

Korean installation artist Yang Hae-gue (Haegue Yang) gives an exhibition at Modern Art Oxford, which will be her first exhibition in the U.K. The exhibition, titled “Teacher of Dance,” is accompanied by an educational program.

RAUK Annual Workshop

The Russian Association of Universities for Korean Studies (RAUK), which was established in 2005 by leading universities in Russia with Korean Studies programs, holds its annual workshop. Korea Foundation Day

To mark the 20th anniversary of its founding and celebrate the special exhibition of Lee Ufan (Yi U-hwan) at the Guggenheim Museum, the Foundation hosts “Korea Foundation Day” events at the Guggenheim. The events are intended to promote understanding of Korea among the U.S. public; they include a special lecture, classical music performance by Sejong Soloists, and exhibition tour.

Trio Owon’s Performance at Korea-France Cultural Exchange Festival

A group of Korean artists active in Europe present a concert, exhibition and traditional tea-serving demonstration at the Korea-France Cultural Exchange Festival. The festival is held in conjunction with France’s representative music festival, “Fete de la Musique.” Participants include Trio Owon, led by cellist Yang Sung-won, and photographer Bae Bien-u.

Lee Ufan Retrospective at Guggenheim Museum

The Guggenheim Museum hosts the first retrospective exhibition of Korean artist Lee Ufan (Yi U-hwan) in North America, entitled “Lee Ufan – Marking Infinity.” The exhibition features about 90 of Lee’s works, created since the 1960s, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, and installation works.

‘Ola Viola Sound’ Participates in French Art Festival

Ola Viola Sound, a prominent Korean viola ensemble, participates in the Bicetre Art Festival, to be held in France. Its repertoire includes works by Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven, and songs by the Beatles.
