Forums
The Foundation hosts and sponsors forums with the four influential powers – the United States, Japan, China, and Russia – and other countries and regions, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Spain, Brazil, ASEAN, and Central Asia. With the participation of opinion leaders from each count ry’s government , bus ines s , media, academic, and cultural sectors, the forums serve as an occasion to discuss matters of common interest, build personal networks between participants, and maintain a dialogue channel between countries at the nongovernmental level.
So as to supplement the rather limited official relations between governments, the Foundation’s forum program enables the parties to engage in frank and indepth discussion of bilateral relations on a regular basis (outside the bounds of official positions), enhance mutual understanding, and promote cooperative relations. In 2009, the Foundation plans to host and provide support to bilateral forums with about 14 countries, and multilateral forums with three regions.
The Foundation invites distinguished figures from abroad to serve as guest speakers at the KF Forum sessions. For a target audience consisting of Korea’s opinion leaders and specialists in various fields, the monthly forum contributes to an enhancement of Korea’s globalization and understanding of relevant international issues. The Foundation’s tentative plans call for the hosting of 10-12 KF Forum sessions in 2009.
