Runway Singapore #SGFASHIONNOW 2023 Opens at KF Gallery
On November 21, Runway Singapore #SGFASHIONNOW, an exhibition of Singaporean fashion, opened at the KF Gallery in Seoul. It is the result of a collaborative effort among the KF, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) in Singapore, and the Singaporean Embassy in Korea. The third edition of the ACM’s “#SGFASHIONNOW” explores the theme “What is fashion in Singapore?”
The first part of the exhibition is titled “Craftsmanship” and presents exquisite tailoring and elaborate details through elegant couture garments by globally famous Singaporean designers such as Andrew Gn, Ashley Isham, and Laichan. The second part, titled “Innovation in Tradition,” shows works by Studio HHFZ that incorporate modern prints into Chinese qipao; Putri Adif’s harmony of batik and corsets from Malaysia; and OliveAnkara’s pursuit of sustainable fashion using the African ankara wax print technique. The third and final part, titled “Urbanite,” is a glimpse at the dynamic lifestyles of cosmopolitan Singaporeans through experimental but practical streetwear.
Also on display are the works of The Salvages, which designed outfits for K-pop artists like BLACKPINK and G-Dragon, and those of Harry Halim, whose outfits were worn by 2NE1’s CL at the 2022 We the Fest in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The exhibition runs through January 31 and admission is free. For further details, please visit the KF’s official website (www.kf.or.kr).
