2016 Korean Literature Workshop for Overseas Doctoral Students

The Korea Foundation is conducting a new workshop program for doctoral students of Korean literature who are currently undertaking their PhD course work and/or in the process of writing their dissertations on Korean literature themes. This program is designed to reinforce the presence of Korean Studies abroad, especially in the field of Korean literature, by providing doctoral students with opportunities to learn more about the latest research trends/findings, receive guidance on dissertation writing, and visit cultural relics in Korea.


Program Overview

- Lectures by distinguished scholars of Korean literature
- Discussions on literature-related research trends in and out of Korea
- Presentations of participants’ theses/research
- Guidance on dissertation preparation
- Network building of doctoral candidates and professors of Korean literature
- Meetings with professional writers
- Visits to writers’ homes and museums
- Cultural activities

Workshop Period

July 4 - July 11, 2016

Program Qualifications

Doctoral students who are:
   - Undertaking doctoral course work at universities outside of Korea in the field of Korean literature-related subjects;
   - Able to make a 20-minute-presentation on their thesis project in Korean or English; and
   - Foreign nationals (Korean nationals with permanent residency status in a country outside Korea are eligible)

Number of Available Participants

Up to 20 PhD students

Details of Support

- Economy-class round-trip airfare to/from Korea
- Accommodations and meals during the workshop period

Required s for Application

- Completed Application Form (please find attached)
- Supplemental Materials:
   • Curriculum vitae
   • Proof of enrollment at Ph.D. program
   • Letter of reference from doctoral advisor

How to apply

- The aforementioned Required s for Application should be submitted by email to the Korea Foundation’s Korean Studies Department at csjee@kf.or.kr by May 4, 2016.
- Letter of reference from doctoral advisor should be directly sent to csjee@kf.or.kr
- Results will be available on May 13.
