ACH building

아세안문화원 건축물The facade of the ASEAN Culture House is designed based on the architectural style of ASEAN member countries. The exotic and unique roof design is inspired by the traditional dwellings in the tropical forests of ASEAN, which the roofs are tall and steep with deep eaves. The practicality and beautiful lines of traditional dwellings have been reproduced in the building design. In particular, the open air terrace on the 3rd and 4th floors used a type of Indonesian wood called Kumea as flooring.

From the inside of the Culture House, a portion of the ceilings from the 1st to 3rd floors are open, creating a wide and open atmosphere. The Community Hall that connects with a staircase from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor is where performances, festivals, talk concerts, meetings with exhibitors, and many other programs are held. The staircase is functional for taking photographs, which is why the space has become the photo zone for visitors

The internal of the Culture House implemented eco-friendly fundamentals with a structure that creates cross ventilation and a chimney effect, enabling natural ventilation. The upper part of the building has a roof and eaves, controlling the amount of sunlight that comes into the building. The purpose of the architectural design is to provide visitors with a more pleasant atmosphere.

As for the most popular spots of the Culture House, there is a guest book device at the lobby that greets visitors. This device is uniquely designed with ten stalks of padi tied together, which represents the ten ASEAN member states and their friendship and solidarity. A tablet PC in front of the device is where visitors can write or draw their thoughts, which is then printed on a paper from the round space that connects the stalks of padi. President Moon Jae-in and his wife also used this device and left a message during their visit in 2019.

On the 1st floor, there is the VR Zone, the most popular space for kids. Visitors can virtually experience the UNESCO cultural heritages of the ASEAN member countries through the VR devices. This VR experience gives a realistic feeling, as if the user is actually travelling the destinations in person. There is also a ASEAN costume kiosk, where visitors can virtually try the traditional costumes of ASEAN member countries.

On the 2nd floor, there is the Permanent Exhibition Gallery where craftwork and exhibits of the ten ASEAN member states are housed all year round. There is also the Seminar Room 201, where language courses are held. The 3rd floor has the Cooking Studio, where the popular cooking classes take place. Visitors are invited to cook and try the traditional dishes of the ten ASEAN member countries. Finally, the Auditorium is placed on the 4th floor, where various performances and movie screening of ASEAN are held.
